I used to hate cleaning my hairbrushes and combs because I never really knew how to do it properly. Unfortunately, they get dirty pretty fast, they attract dirt, dust, oils from your hair, grease, and all sorts of other impurities which makes their cleanliness is very crucial for our hair. In fact, using clean hair brushes is one of the most important things if you want to have healthy beautiful hair.
Another pretty interesting thing I recently learned is that just cleaning them is not enough – you also need to disinfect your hairbrushes. This is important because cleaning does not get rid of the germs – and your hair brushes are packed with bacteria.
Here Is How I Properly Clean My Hair Brushes
The first thing I do is remove all the hairs stuck between the bristles of my hairbrushes. I also wipe oil or grease if I see any with a paper towel.
Next, I put all my brushes in a bucket (you can also use your sink or even bathtub) then I fill it with warm water.
I continue with pouring shampoo in the water and mix well. I usually let them soak for 30 minutes to an hour.
Next, I get an old toothbrush and scrub the hairbrushes one by one. I scrub between the bristles so that any impurities can be properly removed. Sometimes I also use a toothpick to scrub off any dirt stuck at the bottom which I cannot reach with the toothbrush.
Once I am done with everything – I rinse them and let them air-dry.
How To Disinfect Your Hair Brushes?
After I clean my brushes it’s time to disinfect them and make sure any germ is removed.
Sometimes I spray them with rubbing alcohol and let them dry which I have found is the most effective way, however, if you don’t feel like using rubbing alcohol you can try out soaking your brushes in a mixture of warm water and a few drops of antibacterial essential oil (lavender or tea tree essential oils have antibacterial properties).
